See the clinician of your choice.
Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage (OON), allowing you to see the clinician of your choice while still having a portion of your regular visits covered by your insurance. If our clinicians do not work with your insurance, please check your out-of-network coverage to see if your plan offers reimbursement for mental/behavioral health services.
How does it work?
At the end of your first session, your clinician will bill you at their full self-pay rate and submit a claim to your insurance. Your insurance plan will pay Psychology House the rate your plan reimburses for out-of-network services. Psychology House will then credit the difference to your account to go towards your next visit. Each session after that, your clinician will only bill you for the amount your insurance does not cover. They will also submit the insurance claims on your behalf to collect the remaining portion that is covered by your plan.
For example, if your clinician’s self-pay rate is $200/session and your insurance plan covers 40% of out-of-network services, then you will be billed $120/session and your insurer will cover the rest. We use this method of out-of-network billing to free our clients from the responsibility of submitting an insurance claim (or superbill) after each session.
How do I know if I have OON coverage?
The best way to find out is to call your insurance company to see what your plan covers. Not all plans offer out-of-network coverage, but many will cover a percentage of your costs if you are working with a clinician outside of their network. Here are some helpful questions to ask your insurance provider on your call:
How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Are Telehealth sessions covered? How about over the phone sessions?
Do I need approval from my primary care physician first?
Out-of-Network coverage may be a benefit of your insurance plan. And using it allows you to get the most out of your coverage (and your monthly premiums).
