See the clinician of your choice.
Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage (OON), allowing you to see the clinician of your choice while still having a portion of your regular visits covered by your insurance. If our clinicians do not work with your insurance, please check your out-of-network coverage to see if your plan offers reimbursement for mental/behavioral health services.
How does it work?
You would see your clinician the predetermined amount that was agreed upon in your treatment plan (typically twice a month). At the end of each month, Psychology House will email you what’s called a “Superbill”, which you can then give to your insurance provider. A superbill is a detailed list of services and costs provided by a healthcare provider to a patient. It's used to create health insurance claims and to reimburse patients for services they've paid for out-of-pocket. Based on your insurance plan’s out-of-network coverage, your insurance provider would then reimburse you for a percentage of the costs of that month’s visits.
For example, if your clinician’s self-pay rate is $200/session and your insurance plan covers 40% of out-of-network services, then your insurance would reimburse you $80 per session. So if you were to see your clinician twice a month, you would end up paying $240/month instead of $400/month.
How do I know if I have OON coverage?
The best way to find out is to call your insurance company to see what your plan covers. Not all plans offer out-of-network coverage, but many will cover a percentage of your costs if you are working with a clinician outside of their network. Here are some helpful questions to ask your insurance provider on your call:
How much does my plan cover for an out-of-network provider?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Are Telehealth sessions covered? How about over the phone sessions?
Do I need approval from my primary care physician first?
Out-of-Network coverage may be a benefit of your insurance plan. And using it allows you to get the most out of your coverage (and your monthly premiums).
