Men’s Support Group St. Pete

Man enjoying his day at the beach. Living a happier life as a member of the Men's Support Group in St. Petersburg

Men are often discouraged from being emotionally expressive, putting them at a disadvantage in terms of mental health and relational issues. As a result, men are not offered many opportunities to practice being vulnerable, let alone learn how to trust others with their vulnerability. The St. Petersburg Men’s Support Group provides a safe space for men to express the emotional and mental health struggles they encounter in their daily lives. This space encourages members to let go of the stigma around expressing one’s feelings and embrace the experience of a supportive environment.

What is a typical session like?

Our Men’s Group sessions have no set agenda or structure. Each session is meant to hold a space for what’s needed by the members in that given week. Past topics have covered daily struggles, grief and loss, relationship issues, feeling disconnected, and finding meaning and purpose. On average, sessions consists of a small, intimate group of 5 to 8 members, along with Dr. Carpenter, who facilitates and drives the conversations. There are no podiums or rotations; just a casual environment and open discussions.

“We started the Men’s Support Group because we saw, in our clients, that there was a clear need for this kind of outlet.”
